From Adversity to Accomplishment — How One Woman Overcame Life’s Challenges to Inspire Others
Born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, Dr. Meleeka Clary’s life is a testament to the power of perseverance, passion, and personal growth. With a rich cultural heritage—Black, Cherokee Indian, and Portuguese—Meleeka’s journey from humble beginnings in Mattapan to becoming a PhD candidate, actress, model, and mental health advocate is nothing short of extraordinary.
Early Life: A Childhood of Strength and Survival
Growing up as the sixth of eight children in a blended family, Meleeka’s early years were marked by emotional and financial challenges. Her father, Andrew Lee Clary, Sr., was a street-savvy entrepreneur with a sharp mind and a hustler’s heart. Despite his battles with substance abuse, he instilled in his children the importance of ambition, independence, and determination. Her mother, Larriana Clary, a reserved and devout Christian, endured emotional struggles of her own, including depression brought on by the complexities of love and commitment.
Though times were tough, Meleeka found comfort and strength in creativity. Recognized for her talent in tap, ballet, and jazz, she began studying dance at just 8 years old at Vicki’s School of Dancing and Acting. At 13, she made her acting debut playing Harriet Tubman in a school production, setting the stage for a passion she would return to years later.

Teen Adulthood: Loss, Responsibility, and Grit
Tragedy struck during Meleeka’s high school years. Both of her parents became seriously ill, and her older brother stepped in to help raise her. By 17, she moved out on her own, dropping out of Brighton High School to work full-time. At 18, she lost her father to a bleeding ulcer, and her mother—struggling with depression—came to live with her. Honoring her father’s wish, Meleeka re-enrolled in Madison High School in Roxbury, earning her diploma while working multiple jobs to support her small family.
From Real Estate to Higher Education
Driven by ambition and the desire to break generational cycles, Meleeka purchased her first home at 21, becoming a real estate investor. Simultaneously, she pursued acting and dancing but was forced to step back due to threats of sexual harassment. Unwilling to let setbacks define her, Meleeka turned to education. She earned:
- An Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Newbury College
- A Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Curry College
- A Paralegal certificate from Northeastern University
Along the way, she also became a mother, raising two daughters while working three jobs to maintain a stable and enriched life for her children and her mother.

Law School, Health Battles, and New Beginnings
Meleeka’s educational journey continued when she was accepted into Concord Law School. However, marital issues, academic struggles, and a life-threatening pregnancy—with over seven surgeries and a battle with congestive heart failure—forced her to step away. Her son was born healthy, but the marriage ended soon after.
The traumatic experience became the catalyst for her next chapter: understanding the human mind. She enrolled in a Clinical Psychology PhD program at Walden University, determined to use her life experiences to help others heal.
A Triumphant Return to Entertainment
Now a proud mother of three, a caretaker to her mother, and a driven scholar, Dr. Meleeka Clary is once again pursuing her passion for acting and modeling. With several projects underway, she is reclaiming her space in the entertainment industry—this time with an empowered voice and an inspiring story behind her name.
A Voice for Strength, Healing, and Women’s Empowerment
Dr. Meleeka Clary’s story is more than a biography—it’s a blueprint for resilience. Through every obstacle, she has remained steadfast in her belief in education, family, and self-worth. Whether she’s speaking on mental health, appearing on-screen, or raising her children, Dr. Clary continues to be a source of inspiration for women around the world.
